    Thatching is still carried on locally as less than half the dwelling-houses in the district are slated, and lime-burning which was formerly a large industry is still carried on, sometimes.
    Lime has been burned locally with peat, turf or with culm. In former times culm was carted from Drumagh Culm Pits until these pits were closed about fifty years ago. Owing to the high price of cross-channel culm, since the War, only turf gas been used for lime-burning.
    The lime-stone is got in a local quarry and carted to the lime-kiln where the heavy pieces are reduced to the required size with a stone hammer. When sufficient stones are broken several loads of turf are made into a reek near the kiln.
