    In the year 1935 a great snowstorm swept over the countryside.
    Many people were smothered, and sheep and other animals were lost in the great depth of snow, which lay on the land.
    The snow was about five and six feet in some parts of the country.
    The snow did not begin to melt until a fortnight after.
    The morning of the snowstorm the snow was so deep that the people could hardly open the doors of their houses.
    When people were travelling in motor-cars, that they had to take implements with them to make a passage along the snow .
