  1. Local Happenings
There were several drownings in the river Allow. Namely Michael Brennan of Freemount and John Walsh of Dromina and Bowles of Bawnmoor. Matthew Noonan of Kilnockin and Thomas Morton attempted to rescue MIchael Brennan but failed.
Freemount School was burned in Spring 1907. It was supposed that a piece of timber projecting into the chimney caught fire during the day and it was found burned in the early hours of the morning. The boys school was in Barry's stalls and the girls school was in Sheahan's stables.
There was a great thunder storm in 1927. It broke into a house near Kanturk. The father tried to save the children but he had to cross a stream near the house to get to the road. The water was so strong that it swept two of the children from his arms and they were drowned.
There was a great snow storm forty three years ago, which lasted for six weeks. People in low houses had to be dugy out of them.
