    the neighbourhood of Kileoleman Castle. Down the centuries, persecuted, disorganised, and often famine-stricken though they were, our hardy fore-fathers played the grand old pastime: and, doubtless there was many a "Sean Oge" long since forgotten, or commemorated only by crudely carved ball and caman on stone slab in rural church-yards.
    When the Gaelic Athletic Association was formed in 1885 under the distinguished patronage of Archbishop Croke, that great and enlightened advocate of clean and manly recreation Buttevant fell enthusiastically into line, helped on by the counsel and enthusiasm of a typical saggarth, Father Con Buckely, and within a year teams like the "Brigadiers" and those famous under seven-year-old "Holy Terrors" were winning hurling honours for the parish.
