  1. In former times people never wore boots until they were finished school and had gone out to work
There is an old woman locally called "Mary the Bags" travelling from place to place and she never wore boots in her life, nor does she wear them now. She is said to be a farmer's daughter and people say she has plenty of money.
In this locality very poor children never wear boots in Summer or in Winter.
There are three shoemakers in the village of Castletownroche and they repair many boots and shoes. In former years in this locality clogs were generally made and worn but they are very seldom seen nowadays.
