- This is north of Ballyhooly. Nobody knows rightly how it got its name.Some say it means a "point or head" and more say it means "ferns". Ferns grow abundantly there. There was a Mansion there which was blown up.In Elizabeth's time the place around was owned by the poet Spencer's brother. The poet often visited there and it is said he wrote most of the Faerie Queen there sitting on an oak tree which to this day is known as "Spencer's Oak". In the poem he refers to Renny. This oak is on the Blackwater.Nellie Joyce
