- In this district many old customs still survive in connection with festival days. On the 31st of October we celebrate Hallowe'en. On this night we have great feastings of cakes and the youths still have many old customs. Apples are hung on cords from the ceiling of the room and the young children try to catch them with their mouths, without putting any hand near the apple. Three basins are put on the table, water in one, earth in another and a ring in the third Then there is a cloth put around somebodys eyes so that he could not see the basins. He then tries to find out the ring. It is said that if you got the ring you would be married before the year would be out; or if you got he earth you would die before anyone else in the house. Another great festival day for the people throughout Ireland is St. Stephens Day. The young boys go hunting(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
