  1. There are very few forts near Doneraile. One in the expansive "Doneraile Park" and one in the blacksmith's land in Skaghardgannon. named "Roches Fort". If you stayed on the top of (the) Fort in the park you can see the one in Mr. Rocke's field.
    Roches fort is round and is guarded by a high bank of dry mud. Outside the fort there is a quarry which is said to be an entrance into it. Long ago it is said that a stranger to Doneraile went exploring the old rath, but unluckly for him, to satisfy his curiosity, he entered and was seen no more.
