- A sign of rain is, when the sun shines brilliantly in the morning and throws out long rays and shortly afterwards is clouded. Another sign is a copper coloured sunset. When a new moon lies on its back you may expect rain. A halo around the moon also denotes rain. When the sock of the "plough" appears to be in the ground rain is near.
