- (continued from previous page)having the fire in the centre of the house on the floor. Glass was mostly used for windows but the windows were only half the size of the one at present. The floors were made of yellow mud. Half doors were very common in this district long ago; a good number of them still exist.
Turf was mostly used for firing with a little coal. Light was got from dip candles. These were made from the melted fat of animals such as the pig, cow and sheep. Cotton thread was used as wick.Written by
