BALLYVODOCK CASTLE. BAILE BHODAIGH which may be from bodach a churl, or perhaps bodach is a personal name.
On this townland are the very scant remains (only a small shapeless mass of masonry) of an ancient Castle and an early Church site. Ballyvodock Castle was one of the 220 places in Barrymore raided by Hugh O'Neill in 1599. Some years later the castle was leased by William and John Hodnett to Louis O'Cahill of Rathgobban who later lost all he had in the Confederate Wars.
Shortly afterwards, the Castle was destroyed, by gunpowder.
BARRYSCOURT CASTLE. is in a comparatively good state of preservation, and its history is already recorded.
