    Ballynacole, a townland of Dungourney, is explained by Fr. Power as meanign Baile Bgocoil or Nicol's Homestead. No person can give any information of Nicol. He seems to be purely imaginary.
    Dr. Joyce in Vol I (3 vols) of his Irish names of places gives Coll as the Irish word for hazel, and among the many forms he has found is COle. Now in Ballynacole, Dungourney, hazel bushes are still to be seen.
