  1. Potatoes.
My father grows potatoes every year. He grows an acre and a half some years and other years two acres. He does not manure the ground before he ploughs it. First the ploughs it and harrows and rolls it. Then he makes the drills and spreads farmyard manure and a little artificial manure between the drills. Then he employs a woman to the cut the potatoes.
He puts some of the potatoes sprouting in boxed made for sprouting. Only the middle sized ones are put sprouting about the size of an egg. The ones that are not sprouted are cut and eye is left in each potato. When the potatoes are cut they are called scillanes. Lime is shaken over the cut potatoes to keep the insects away.
People are employed to set the potatoes and they sat about a foot a part. Then they are covered with a plough that has board on each side of it to throw the earth up.
