  1. Mount Prospect is the name given to a small piece of ground owned by the Sisters of Mercy Passage West. It was first owned by a man whose name was Captain Brown and his wife. Captain Brown built a house on it for his wife.
It is said that Captain Brown's wife went over to England to see Queen Victoria who at that time was building a Mansion. On seeing the building and being so plased with the work, she brought back to Ireland two of the men who were building the Mansion. She told her husband all about the building and asked him to get a copy of the plan for her. He got the plans and the Mansion was built. When the building was complete the named they called it was Mount Prospect. The Browns owned it for a good many years. Then it was bought by the Sisters of Mercy as an orphanage. The orphanage was opened by the Bishop of Cork who Celebrated the first mass in it and every week since mass is said in it by the Parish Priest.
