- The making of brooms was a great trade in Cloyne long ago. A woman named Mrs. Cotter who lived in Chapel Street, made them. These brooms were made of heather, and were very useful to the people for sweeping the earthen floors long ago. These brooms are not used as much now-a-days as long ago, because nearly all floors are boarded now.
