   There were many forges in Cloyne long ago. John Kenneally had a forge in River Street. He made ploughs, gates, and spades etc. He had two or three men employed at that work. Farmers from the district bought the ploughs, and the spades from him. Michael Twomey, of Church Lane was a black-smith. He used to make nails and horse-shoes out of rod-iron. William Cusack lived in Spittal Street, and he was a black-smith also. He repaired ploughs, locks etc. His forge is still there and it is worked by James Rigney.
