- The name of our town is Cloyne and it is in the barony of Imokilly. There are about six hundred people in the town and the name most common is O'Brien. Nearly all the houses are slated and a thatched one is very rarely seen. You'll find only very few people able to speak Irish in the town itself, but a few of the country people are able to speak a little of it. There were more houses in Cloyne long ago, but most of the people are gone to England, and the houses are vacant, and some of them are in ruins now.Information received from
