   Festival Customs 1. On Stephen's Day, 26th Dec, young men and children dressed up in funny attire, go around the country, from house to house collecting money. They have a violin or two with them, or may be a melodian, and a couple of mouth-organs. They dance, or else sing a song in each house, On an appointed night a fortnight or so later, a party is given in some country house, out of the money collected - children generally divide their money amongst them. 2. Eligible young men who let Shrove go by, without getting married, are rewarded by a plentiful supply of chalk marks
