  1. Near the Daar river which flows about a mile outside the town is a fort. In that fort was found, some years ago a golden pin and a huge pair of antlers. Those articles were found by Tom Moore and his brother Patrick when digging a drain through the fort which was then in their father's possession. On their way home with their treasures they broke off a ring which was attached to the pin and lost it as they did not realise its value. When they went to (school) next morning they gave it to the School Master and we are not sure whether it is in the Courtenay school or not.
