  1. In 1924 a double drowning tragedy took place in Glenmore above Strand. Mrs Lynch and her son being the victims. One day the boy was playing ball near a quarry hole which was full of water. The ball got into the water and the child ran in after it. The mother who was inside minding a sick baby, on hearing his cries rushed out, and in trying to reach him she too got drowned. A sad feature of the occurrence was that the father was away in Newcastle looking for a doctor for the sick baby. The sick baby died a couple of days later.
