  1. A short distance from our school there was a man found dead on the roadside during the Famine of 1847. His remains were buried just inside the fence on the roadside. There is a new cottage near by and owned by Mr O. Shaughnessy of Rathcahill. The exact spot where the poor man was buried can still be pointed out.
