- Saint Ita is the local patron saint. She was born in Co Waterford. Her father wanted her to marry but she would not. She came to Killeedy Co. Limerick and built a convent. Girls went from the neighbouring districts to the convent. Many stories are told about her. It is said she would send one of the nuns to a forge nearby for the seed of the fire. It is stated that Saint Ita blessed an apron and gave it to the nun, it is said the nun put the fire into the apron but it did not burn it. She told it to Ita and she said that she could bring fire every morning in the apron but if she (the nun) commited a sin the apron would burn. It is said she had a small black cow that had six teats.
