- The principal farm animals kept at home are the cows, horses, swine, (calf) calves, and fowl. When the cattle are being driven about "How! How! is said and Suck! Suck! is said when calling the calves. The cows are tied by stalls in a special house during the Winter. In olden times they were tied in a special way around the neck or horns. A cross of rushes is hung over every cow on St. Brigid Eve to keep them going lucky. Both the cow and the horse are fed on the same diet e.g. hay and root-crops. The horses are shod and clipped at the local forge. There is a story told in Feenagh(continues on next page)
