    It was around Christmas and of course Bill was drinking with all his comrades. He had plenty money after his years work and he drank heavily.
    Tom his brother had to go to Newcastle West on important business. The only one that remained was Bill and he was under the influence of drink. It was about nine o'clock in the night, and the public-houses were closing and he had to retire home. He did not go home directly but he loitered around the village corners.
