- (continued from previous page)building. Thos. Madden 38 Manistir Croom; born at the "stepping stones" shown clearly on 6 " sheet No. 31 says that this outline in the corcass shows the site of the ancient Church of Dunkip. (The whole district is Dunkip) and that there is a graveyard there. I visited the place myself some years ago but have not seen it recently. When an opportunity to do so again, arises I shall avail of it. This church site and grave-yard are now in the centre of an area that is always liable to flooding. The pool referred to in section 32 page 55 as POWLAFASSURE is quite near and to the south of this reputed burial site. Mr Madden added that Archdeacon Begley, in his search for the church foundations etc (see page 114 bottom of page) to complete his ecclesiastical history of Limerick, failed to locate this church-site of Dunkip. I shall be able to verify that statement later or reverse it.The ruins of Cealltar referred to at length on pages 33 and 34 are in the townland of Killeenoughty and I have no doubt, from their position on the swelling slope of Cnoc Drom Asail on which they are situated, that the names Ceallltar and Cillín-Uchta (Westropp calls this Cill-Fhíon-Shneachta) are dual designations for the church at Cealltar. There is no trace of any Cillín in Killeenoughty, traditionally or materially except at Cealltar.(continues on next page)
