   big coat about her and carried her home. The girl stayed in the house with the boy and his mother but she used not to go out or talk to any one. If any one would come in she would go into the room in order to avoid the talk A poor scholar who used visit her parents' house used also come into the house where she now was. She was always watching out for his coming so that she could escape his seeing her. One day however he came in unexpectedly and he saw her face and knew her. She was the only daughter who had died at the other end of the country. The poor scholar went and told her parents the news, and then he came for her and brought her home. When her mother saw her she fell in a faint.

   One night there was a poor scholar in a certain house and while he was there the woman of the house gave birth to a baby boy. The poor scholar wrote a note and put it into a locket and hung it around the baby's neck. He gave instructions that the boy was not to open the locket, nor any body else either, until he was twenty-five years of age. What he wrote on The note which he put into the locket was that the boy would be hanged. When the boy grew up to be nearly a young man he went to a work in a gentleman's place. This gentleman was a poor scholar. The other servants in the place did not like the new-
