I was driving a pair of oul' strippers in rout for the town of Ra-kale.
I should stop at Pat Field's, Drehidtarsna, next morning proceed to the fair.
But I did not execute orders, and there's where I made the mistake.
For when I got as far as Mick Harty's, the grey wan went up towards the lake.
Not a soul had I with me that evening and there I should stand like a fool.
Until someone would come to release me, my case was indeed very cruel.
For a full half an hour there I waited, and no one was coming my way.
I put her into a neighbouring cowhouse, and then went in search of the grey.
I went up through Johnny Moloney's to try the fields, ditches and drains.
Down thro' Tady Mac's of Drumlohan, through Maurice Devaney's and Quain's.
I tried all Mike Humphrey's farms, I was far and near out of my way.
Tory Hill was the last place I travelled, and still got no trace of the grey.
