    Mrs Carey kept a smallshop nealy opposite Bluetts gate in Tobernea and a sycamore tree still maks the spot where the house stood in Paddy McCarthys field.
    it was after th ebad times of 1848 and Mrs Carey's good man was away at public works so there was no man in the house. Mrs Carey had a daughter Mary and a very poor woman called Maureen who had no house of her own was lodging with them whtn this queer thing happened.
    At about nine o'Clock at night in the month of November with a full moon shining from a cloudless sky Maureen and Mary Carey went to the welll for a bucket of water which was about two hundred yards away. They had to pass Cliffords
