    II
    For centuries, the holy monks
    In heavenly peace did dwell.
    But soon there, came a day of woe
    For them a tale to tell.
    When sydney, that man of evil deeds
    Whose crimes were nothing less
    Than those of his mistress
    Oft called the the "Good Queen Ress".
    Attacked the sacred edifice.
    Its holiness profaned.
    And then into the deep blue sky
    Rose up the deadly flame.
    Then gravely fought the brethren
    Alas! their hour had come;
    And three of them upon the spot
    there suffered martyrdom.
