  1. There is a holy well called St. Shion's Well in the churchyard of Clonbeg (Aherlow). The well is situated at the eastern end of the graveyard, under the shadow of the present protestant church of Clonbeg and close to the ruins of the ancient catholic church of St. Mary's. There is a white-thorn bush near the well.
    A pattern was held at Clonbeg on the 20th July for a number of years but owing to abuses - drinking and faction fights it was suppressed by Father MacCormack Parish Priest of Galbally and Aherlow about eighty years ago. The pattern is still observed however by some of the older
