    I
One day in May I rode a bay
    To sweet Tipperary Races
I met a maid upon the way
    Approaching Kitty Hayes's
The day being fine, Sol did shine
And this maid seemed tired from walking
I asked her to take a seat
And we'd spend some time in talking
She accepted with the sweetest grace
And took a seat beside me
Said she'd go to see the races
    A secret she'd confide me
That morning she contrived to get
A Chance at the Old Chap's pocket
And from it drew a note or two
To buy a chain and locket
    II
She asked me where I did reside
With a smile so sweet and willing
I told her by the green hill side
    Convenient to Kilfinane
She said she knew the spot right well
    Night the fair of Ballinvreena
And some fine day she'd call that way
