One evening of late as I happened to stray
To the County Tipperary I soon took my way
To dig the potatoes and work by the day
On hire with a Galbally Farmer.

I asked him how far we were bound for to go.
The night it was dark and the north wind did blow
I was hungery and tired and my spirits were low
And I had neither whiskey nor cordial
III
He made me no answer but mounted his steed
And to Galbally mountains he rode at great speed
I certainly thought my poor heart it would bleed
To be trudging behind the old Pagur.

When I came to his dwelling I entered it first
