“There is a hill in the County Limerick called the Hill of Derk.”
There is a hill in the County Limerick called the Hill of Derk. It is a very high hill and old people say that in the penal times Mass was celebrated there. Two holes bored into the stones show where the candles were held. A few years ago a man named Denis Harty found a big crucifix there when digging a trench. The name Derk is got from Dearg, the Irish word for "red", as the country around is very bare.
A place near Derk is called Firmanagh, the "Country of the Monks."- Collector
