    This is the version of the following story I heard. Long ago in Ireland giants were very numerous.

    of his pocket without the giant seeing him. When the giant stood up again the boy released the bird. The bird delighted to be free and at liberty soared into the air and before long was out of sight.
    The giant went home very humble but if he heard how he had been deceived he would be very angry. However the boy taught him a good lesson because from that day onwards he never boasted about what he was able to do.
