- The cow is a very docile animal, and requires very little attention when housed. When untied it will go to it's waiting place and return to its own stall without a driver. In Summer, the cows will come to the milking bawn, and at the familiar Ho, Ho, Ho the leader will start bellowing for the others to follow.The present cow-house is generally a large roomy building, well ventilated with part cement floors. The cows are tied in stalls by the neck. The old people had many customs which no doubt they felt brought them luck Phisogues were very often practised in Co. Limk. in years gone by, and it is said that they are practised in some places yet.As a rule, the farmers take great precautions on May Eve, as this is the time the charms are successful. Holy water is skaken on cows and wells, farmers remain out all night sometimes to watch their property closely.Cows know their milkers and many people(continues on next page)
