  1. (continued from previous page)
The wedding feast was generally held at the bride's home and the repast consisted of roast goose or turkey, ham, home made sweet cake with plenty of whiskey, wine and lemonade.
In the country districts there was no going away on a honeymoon. After the wedding breakfast the bride and bridegroom returned to their home. Sometimes an all night dance was held but the big "blow out" as it was called was held at the hauling home or the bride's first visit home to her parent's house after a month.
The full fortune was not paid before the marriage. £100 was kept over for twelve months.
