  1. There is an abbey in the townland of of Friarstown in the Parish of Knockea Co. Limerick.
    It is said to have been inhabited by the Dominicans or White Friars.
    When Cromwell was in Ireland about 300 years ago he was passing through the district and was going to attack the place and burn it.
    The ground opened and the abbey and Friars and all went down and stayed there till the soldiers were gone a safe distance and they all came up again.
