  1. Weatherlore from the observation of animals and birds.
    The nature lover may observe the many changes in the weather by a diligent observation of the movements of the animals and birds.
    At the approach of raid the ducks quack loudly and repair to the pasture in search of worms, the hens pick their feathers and the wise old turkey at the farmyard, looks at the sky to see if rain is nigh and seeing that it is not far off, she gives a warning call which brings her young to her. The domestic animals too seem to scent the change for the cat repairs to the kitchen and sits by the fire wiping its paws, and the dog feasts on grass.
    The wild birds are not without foreknowledge of the approaching rain for the swallow skims the surface of the earth and the curlew’s double “Gaw-in” resounds like a warning through the air. When a storm is nigh the seagulls flood inland and the crows are seen tumbling high in the air, and when fine weather
