    Ashill Lake
    Over seventy years ago there was a beautiful lake situated to the western side of Kilmallock town about 100 yards from the old town wall and about 400 yards from the Catholic Church.
    The lake covered aboaut 8 acres of ground in the estate of Achill. There was a boat house at one end of the lake which was capable of holding three boats.
    During the Summer months people from the surrounding districts enjoyed themselves boating in the lake.
    The owner of the land in which the lake was situated was Mr Evans. He got an idea if he could drain the lake the land would be more useful to him. He succeeded in doing so but it was a costly enterprise for him.
    He built a tunnell about a mile in length from the lake to the river Loobagh and the water is still flowing there. The work was scarcely finished when the found out that all his money was spent in the foolish task of doing away with the lake. He was forced to sell his whole estate.
    Every Winter when heavy rain falls the fields where the lake was get flooded. Some of the old people of the town say there is a prophesy that in years to
