In former times there were seven shoemakers in Kilmallock but there are six nowadays and that leaves a majority of one in former times. The cause of the change is because there is more profit in repairing the boots than making them.
Clogs were worn in former times and were made by the local shoemaker.
Tommy Conaba's grandfather and my grandfather shaped out the clogs and the timber soles and gave them to the other shoemakers to make them.
