    In the townland of Rathmarkey in the parish of Effin which is situated about three and a half miles west of Kilmallock there are several moats.
    Two are very convenient to my house. One of them is on Clifford's land in Rathmarkey, and the other is in Jimmie Fitzgerald's land in Tobernea west. One of them can be easily seen because there is a big ash tree growing on the ditch.
    They are thickly covered with trees which are growing on the ditch around them. Outside the ditches are big dykes which were supposed to keep out the wild beasts long ago.
    My grandmother told me that a light used to go from one end of the moats to
