- Not very many marriages take place in this locality and on that account there are a lot of bachelors living in the Parish.
Match making sometimes occurs, but this is rare also. Shrove is regarded as the period from Xmas until Ash Wednesday.
On Shrove Tuesday, or the Tuesday immediately preceding Ash Wednesday, pancakes are made for the tea, or for the Supper. This is called Pan-cake Night
Sometimes a ring is put in the pan-cakes, and whoever is fortunate enough to get the ring may be expecting an offer of marriage before next Shrove Tuesday.
Marriages generally take place in this parish on a Wednesday. It is regarded as the best day of all.
"Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth Wednesday the best day of all."(continues on next page)
