One amusing incident is remembered about the work of this school. A pupil named Purcell was "hoisted" for punishment on another pupil's back. As Purcell was being threshed severely he plunged a large pin into his comrade's neck. Both boys tumbled to the floor, Purcell fled swearing never to go to school again. It was no rash oath.
