    which they establised as centres of population in the colonies they introduced soon after coming to Ireland. There boroughs were distinguished from each other by the addition of another word from the Irish. In this case it is the word Beg which means small. Thus Burgess Beg - Borrisoleigh, Borrisokane were established by the Nenagh Butlers in the 13th century.
    Three private pay schools.
    In 1837 there were 3 private pay schools in Burgess in which 160 boys ad 90 girls were taught.
    Fairs were held in Youghal Ara on March 6th, June 27th Septh 30th and Dec 13th.
    The antiqiuties of this parish comprise the ancient church ruins in Youghal Ara of St. Cona, the well of St. Conlan and Tobar Brigde in Kilcoleman about two miles south west of Nenagh.
