- In this district many feasts are observed in a special manner as they occur each year. On St. Stephen’s Day boys gather together and go from house to house gathering money to bury the wren.They dress themselves in bad clothes and carry with them a holly bush and they sing songs. Money is gathered and a dance is given. The money is spent on porter.No customs are observed on St. Brigid’s Day. On St. Patrick’s Day the people wear the shamrock. On Shrove Tuesday matches are made for everyone even for those who are very old. Ash Wednesday they go for the ashes.Chalk Sunday the coats of those who should have been married during Shrove and are still unmarried are chalked. On Easter Sunday we get up to see the sun dancing and we eat a great deal of eggs that morning.May day the people delight(continues on next page)
