It is said that money was hidden there by Cromwell, when he was on his way from Nenagh to Clare Glens. Tradition also tells us that wherever Cromwell hid money, that he shot two soldiers to guard it. It is thought that the swarm of bees and the black dog represented the two soldiers that were left on guard. The old people tell us that Cromwells hidden treasures can never be unearthed without loss of life.- Collector
