Signs of rain:-
(1) Sultry and oppressive conditions of the atmosphere.
(2) Flowing water assuming a dark heavy colour.
(3) The presence of unusual numbers of spiders on the walls.
(4) The looseness of the window.
(5) A very blue colour in the fire or in the red ashes of burned turf.
(6) Birds flying low, especially swallows.
(7) Goats seeking shelter.
(8) Sea-gulls visiting cultivated land.
When a dog eats grass, very broken weather is certain to follow. The same can be expected when a cat scratches the leg of the table. When it does so violently a storm is predicted.
A blue-sky, denotes good weather, a grey sky fair weather, and a dark cloudy sky bad weather. When the hills appear distant, it is a good sign of weather, and when they are near, it is a sign of bad weather. A greyish fog resting on the hilltops is a favourable sign, but a whitish fog is bad. Dust rising freely from the roadway is a sure sign of a break in the weather. When a waterfall looks clear and makes greater noise than usual, the weather is about(continues on next page)- Collector
