- (continued from previous page)their lives in the attempt, and also that they would have a hard fight with the animal that was keeping watch over it. Fully aware of these things, and armed with the necessary implements, also a bottle of Holy Water, they started on their journey the following night, at midnight.
When they reached their destination, they shook the Holy Water around the bush. Then they commenced to dig, and they dug and dug until they came upon a large flag. It was so large, they had great difficulty in lifting it. When at last they succeeded in doing so, what did they behold under it, but an ugly cat.
The latter made a desperate attack at the female person. He caught her by the throat, and did not let go until he had her almost choked. After that he ran around the bush, in a circle, and so prevented the diggers from continuing their work. They had then to return terribly frightened and disappointed, and they never again went in search of the coveted treasure.- Collector
