The music was struck up and each ‘straw boy’ picked his lady partner from among the guests, the bride being always chosen. The dance over, ( and only one dance was performed by each batch ) the straw-boys left as they had come without partaking of food or drink although these wrre invariably offered. Outside the house they discarded their straw masks and turned out to be none other than young men from the district who were not invited to the wedding.
- The Hauling Home. Locally this is the name given to the first visit of the bride to the paternal home after her martiage. It does not take place for at least a month(continues on next page)
