- Some years ago there lived in Cashel a man by the name of Dan Carthy. He was a tinker by trade, and a very honest man of his class.
He lived to be a very old man and when he died his family did not believe him to be dead. They propped him up in the bed, and called him by name but there was no reply. Then they put a pipe in his mouth but he did not smoke it. Next day they gave him a pint of porter and when he refused to drink that, they believed him to be dead.- Collector
